Short Term Missions Around the World Kitchen Starter Kit
OVERVIEW“Around the World Kitchen” is a grassroots campaign determined to close the gap between internationals and Americans one shared meal at a time. Meals create opportunities for connection over the common need for nourishment.
The “Around the World Kitchen” cookbook paves a two-way street to connect interculturally. Americans can use recipes recorded from internationals to invite other cultures into their homes and make them a meal using a recipe from the individuals country of origin. Immigrants and refugees can also make any number of classic American recipes included in the cookbook.
This cookbook has been used to create spaces of grace and hospitality where the Gospel can be communicated through the provision of “home”. We would like to open up this evangelistic tool to assist individuals raising funds for short term trips. Each cookbook sold will not only benefit the missionary raising funds financially but will also enable more spaces of connection as more individuals create spaces of welcoming and hospitality.
By using this cook book as a tool for fundraising, you are directly helping to pave a path to true multiculturalism — first, by allowing us (Meagan Jorritsma & Bill Coolbaugh) to spend more time directly engaged within these multicultural settings, and secondly, by opening up new opportunities within your family of Christ to host and serve international individuals and families.
Each cook book will be sold for $20 and split 50/50 between the participant and Around the World Kitchen.
Why Should I do This?
As the world changes and grows, it becomes more and more important for fundraisers to understand how people respond to the opportunity to donate. In the most recent studies looking at giving, it became apparent that when potential donors are given the opportunity to either buy a product to benefit charity or receive a product in exchange for donation the donor consistently chose to buy a product to benefit the charity.
People want to have a physical representation of their donation when they give. This could be for a few reasons. First it brings validity to the donors brain that they have accomplished a goal in donating. Second, it is a concrete reminder that they are now a part of a larger community working towards a larger goal. Belonging is a powerful motivator.
Around the World Kitchen saw this opportunity and created a model for individuals raising money to benefit in three specific ways when they partner with us:
You sell 10 cookbooks you get $50. You sell 20 cookbooks you get $100. You sell 50 cookbooks. You get $500! You sell 100 cookbooks you get $1000!
